Searching for anti-harassment-volunteers!

Post by Kellis Amberlee »

So you wanna in the anti-harassment-team? Great! Welcome, welcome!

We want as diverse a team as possible. Therefore we've made up a list of information we want.

Here's what we want to know about you:

* Your time zone.
* Any privilege and any special triggers.
* Your pronoun/gender.
* Your age and race.
* Thoughts and details on how you'd handle rough situations.
* What's one thing you feel strongly is absolutely unacceptable?
* How would you deal with a they-sad/zie-sad situation?
* Have you personally dealt with harassment in the past?

This is a lot to share on the board so we're asking you to send it in a PM to TheR.J.. Any information about you here will be removed. PM:s are the way to go on this.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Can you provide a job description so we know what we're volunteering for?
Editor, craftsperson, neutral good social justice bard. Partners are X (they) and J (he); child is Kit (they).

umm. is it supposed to be zie-sad, or zie-said?

Otherwise, as a member, want to say thank you to anyone who applies for this/these positions. and extra large thanks for those who are chosen, for giving up their time for this board.
I fuss over details, loath absolute/blanket statements, and probably over think everything I do.

Hi Rose! Just wanted to let you know we're putting together a complete job description.

And, yes, 'said' not 'sad'. Whoops!

Great question! Here's a quick job description:

The job consists of looking at PM reports coming in, believing people about their experiences and working as much as possible on spotting tricky behaviour and preventing further harassment. For instance you may keep a file on a user that has displayed some tricky behaviour.

The way we'd like to set this up is very similar to the way we set up the admod team: we essentially hashed out policies, what we wanted the board to look like and how we wanted it to feel as went along. The mod members of the harrassment team should be able to help you get started, and give some rough guidance on things we've found that work and don't work, though of course the details are almost definitely going to differ!

You'll discuss reported incidents of possible harassment and come up with appropriate responses. That can vary from ”ask an admin to re-write rule 3 to explicitly state that X conduct is not okay” to outright banning with lots of other choices in between.

Until there's an actual harassment claim the job consists of working out how you want a situation to be handled, and being on stand by. Maybe nothing will ever turn up and it's the easiest gig on the board. When something pops up part of the job is supporting the victim and listening.

We don't need *fast* turnaround, we need *good* turnaround. If you're working on a decision, taking a few extra days to come to a fair and right conclusion is fine. If you come to a conclusion quickly that's great as well, but we're not in the fast food industry.

You'll have the freedom to change things as you grow and get some experience. The job includes reviewing our anti harassment policy as nececessary.

As you know the team members will have different colored names and the reports and/or questions will come to you directly. The admod team is there if you need us but won't play an active part.
